⚙️Datapacks & Gamerules

We use datapacks and plugins to make changes to core features of the game. Sometimes this is done to add challenge, but most of our datapacks provide quality-of-life improvements for multiplayer.

Many of our datapacks are provided by the nice folks at Vanilla Tweaks.

Bees for everyone

Bee nests have a small chance to spawn when an oak or mangrove tree is generated. On our server, this is also true for trees spawned by players, with saplings and bonemeal. This allows players access to bees, even when nearby biomes have been picked through.

Coordinates HUD

Adds the /HUD command, optimized by cat. This displays XYZ coordinates, facing direction, and an accurate 24hr clock to your action bar. Note that the HUD will take the place of other info, such as the currently sleeping players.

Creeper explosion damage

Creeper explosions do not break blocks within land claims, but they're still dangerous!

Difficulty

Server difficulty is set to hard. New players keep their inventories on death for the first hour online.

Draw distance

Server render distance is set to 14 (radius), with simulation distance at 4.

Durability ping

Pings you with a sound in game when your gear is about to break, so you don't lose that fancy tool you were grinding for. The '/trigger duraPing' command can be used to access the clickable settings panel for this pack, shown below. This settings panel can be used to disable the ping sound altogether, or change how it displays.

Dropper to dispenser

Adds the ability to craft dispensers using a dropper and bow components, rather than the vanilla recipe requiring (unstackable) bows. Of course, the vanilla one works too.

Elytra crafting

A datapack by HuntersRise adds a crafting recipe for Elytra. While our custom dragon is being redone, players need a new way to access elytra without being required to compete with endgame players to explore the end. This pack accomplishes just that, while still being a challenge.

Fire spread

Fire spreading and block damage is disabled to prevent mass destruction, but it will still burn players and entities.

Healthbars

Monsters and animals display their health in a bar above their head on Dormcraft. This bar won't appear if you kill an entity in a single hit.

Invisible item frames

Adds the option for players to make item frames invisible by placing a 3:00 potion of invisibility in them, which consumes the potion. The item frame is still there once it becomes invisible, and can be interacted with normally.

Larger phantoms

Size and damage dealt by phantoms scales depending on how long it's been since you last slept.

Multiplayer sleep

In Dormcraft, only 1/3 of online players need to sleep to skip the night, rounded up. This means that if there are 10 players on the server, only 4 need to sleep to skip the night. This is to make skipping the night an easy but collaborative task. In vanilla, any player sleeping would cause night to be skipped, which is a nuisance if you need the darkness for what you're working on.

New player protection

Newbies keep their inventory when they die within the first hour after joining, and can't be immediately killed in PvP.

Player head drops

Forces slain players to always drop their head, with lore text indicating their killer.

Poses

Players can sit on slabs, stairs, and carpets on our server, to allow for roleplaying and immersion in builds which use these blocks as chairs. Right click on the upward face of these blocks to sit, and hit your crouch key to stand back up. You can also piggyback on other players, but they can boot you off by crouching.

RandomTickSpeed

This vanilla gamerule controls the speed at which processes such as grass growth and leaf decay occur. On our server it is set to the default rate of 3.

Randstone dye

Adds recipes for sand, sandstone, and smooth sandstone to be crafted into their red sand variants with red dye.

Slabbles

Adds recipes for slabs of all types to be crafted back into full blocks.

Tool Stats

Gear pieces display their individual statistics in the tooltip below enchantments when hovered. This includes mobs slain, damage taken, blocks mined, when and how the item was made, and more.

Trader notify

Pings in chat when a wandering trader spawns, identifying the nearest player:

Universal dyeing

Adds recipes for colored terracotta, stained glass, stained glass panes, carpets, banners, candles, beds and wool to be crafted from materials of any color.

Villager lobotomy

When villagers are immobile, such as when they are trapped in a trading hall or riding in a minecart, they are lobotomized. This means that their pathfinding AI is disabled, to reduce the lag created by ticking villagers. This allows the server to handle loading more trading farms at once, but it can interfere with iron farms a bit, which you can read more about here.

Wither

Minecraft's wither boss is prevented from spawning in the overworld, but it will spawn in the nether and end just fine. This change was made to protect our overworld terrain and make sure players must deliberately enter another world to encounter the game's most powerful foes.
