👋Welcome!

On our wiki, you can find information about all of Dormcraft's major features and add-ons which are different from the vanilla (normal) game.

Dormcraft is a public, student-made Minecraft Java survival multiplayer server, created at Western Washington University in 2019. This means that we maintain a server remotely which hosts our own custom version of Minecraft around the clock, so that Western students have a place to congregate!

We strive to make the server as inviting a space as it can be for people of all backgrounds. Outside the game, we maintain a community Discord server which is a great place to discuss things related to Minecraft, student life, or get help from any number of like minded Western students & alumni. If you're interested, click the button to stop by.

Dormcraft is an official ASWWU club. Current WWU students are invited to register with us using the link below: Register as a club member (2 minutes)

And here's a some quick tips if you're new to the game or to multiplayer servers:

About Our Game

Mojang (Microsoft), the company which owns and develops Minecraft: Java Edition, provides NMS code for free, so that anyone can host a multiplayer server of their own.

We decided to take it one step further.

Actually, we took it a few steps further: Dormcraft is currently running Purpur, which is a fork of PaperMC, which is a fork of Spigot, which is an optimized version of Bukkit, which modifies the base game. We're in pretty deep at this point, and we keep it online all year with 98.4% uptime so you can play Minecraft with friends whenever you feel like it.

Purpur, like the upstream server platforms it is based on, is an open-source project. The Minecraft multiplayer community helps to maintain these platforms, which are intended to adjust the game to run optimally in a multiplayer setting. Additionally, they allow us to mod the server however we like! Playing Minecraft on a Java edition Purpur server does not require any additional downloads or client modifications, though some kinds of these are allowed. Bedrock (including console and Pocket Edition) players are welcome to join as well.

Our server gamemode is Survival, and the difficulty is set to Hard. The current game world, DCv3, has terrain generated in Minecraft: Java Edition 1.18.2 and up- we expand it's borders for major updates. For an overview of how we're set up, check out the guide for new players.
